Originally built in 1902 by George Walters, it served patrons with a variety of services. George Walters was a veteran of the Union Army during the Civil War, and decided to solidify his place in history on this plot of land. Pilot Hill General Store served as a General Store, Post Office, and once a week Chiropractic Service. Once a month, the upstairs would hold court services as the traveling magistrate would come through Limestone. This Store would remain operated by Mr. Walters and his wife for decades to come.
Purchased at Auction in 2014, the store was once again brought back to life by then owners, Donnie & Denise Hall. They opened the store under the name “Old Pilot Hill General Store.” Locals in the area still stop by and reminisce on the days where there was a smoker out back filling the valley with the smell of BBQ. Pilot Hill remained a staple of Limestone until it was closed down in 2020.
The store sits untouched to this date after being purchased in 2021. We have big plans in the future for the store, and will unveil more when the time is right.
